Painting Underwater by Photographer Mark Mawson

Mark grew up in Newark, Nottinghamshire, England and was given his first camera when he was 8 years old. This gift began a love affair with the medium and later took him to London where he began working as a photojournalist for The Times, Sunday Times, The Daily Mail, Mail On Sunday and Today.

He relocated to Sydney in 2001 and whilst continuing his commercial practice as an advertising and portrait photographer, he began experimenting and making time for personal projects. The results include the Aqueous series, which he has continued to build upon since 2005. The work is now homed in many private collections around
the world.

Mark finds that he is able to reconnect with a sense of wonder and mystery while producing the Aqueous series that is akin to the first time he ever produced a dark room print. He is never entirely sure what will be rendered and this lack of control over the final image is a release from the constraints of commercial briefs.

Mark is currently based between London, France & Sydney.
